I like to introduce feelings by sharing various books with children.

One of the books I love is “The Way I Feel” by Janan Cain. After one or two readings of the book, I will relate to the child’s experience and ask child/parent what makes their child feel ____ (feeling).

Afterwards, it helps to use a variety of picture to compare and contrast how different feelings may look like, and even build a feeling with the eyebrows, eyes, mouth, etc.

playTOK Feelings is a Boom CardsSM set with various activities to target emotions. They can be shared virtually through telepractice, or used in-centre on a tablet or whiteboard.

In addition to Feelings, there are silly sets “Mr. Pineapple & Friends” or “Mr. Pumpkin & Friends” that also include an emotions component to the face building.
